The Gallant sweater by Sabina Harnage published in Caidree Ravelry Store in Aran weight yarn is an advanced beginner, top-down, raglan sweater knitting pattern. You will need to be familiar with basic top-down sweater construction in order to make it. Its simplicity is what makes it so special. It is cropped and features a simple mock neck. Worked in the round in stockinette stitch all the way through. Intended to be worn with at least 10 cm of ease. 10 to 15 cm of positive ease is built into the pattern. The pattern is written in American knitting terms.
The bust size of the finished sweater with ease built in is XS 34”, S 37 1⁄2 ”, M 42”, L 45”, XL 49”, 2XL 53”, 3XL 57”, 4XL 61“, 5XL 64 1/2” inches (XS 86, S 96, M 106, L 115, XL 125, 2XL 135, 3XL 145, 4XL 155, 5XL 165 cm). The model is wearing size M on a 93 cm bust.
13 stitches by 19 rows = 4” x 4” (10 x 10 cm) using size US10.5 / 6.50 mm needles in stockinette stitch in the round after blocking.
260, (290), 320, (360), 400, (440), 485, (530), 565 grams of Cardiff cashmere “Brushmere” 25 grams = 45 meters /49 yards. Fiber content 100% Cashmere.
Please note that the yarn estimate is for the cropped version, if you make it longer this will require more yarn.
For the neck and first half of the yoke, you will need double pointed needles or (short tip) 12” size US10.5 / 6.50 mm, 16”+ 32” or 40” US10.5 / 6.50 mm 40 cm + 80 cm or 100 cm circular knitting needles or size to obtain gauge. Longer needles can be used for the neck and the sleeves if you use the magic loop method.
